Zu Gast im Johanneum: The White Horse Theatre
Nach einer langen, Corona geschuldeten, Pause war das White Horse Theatre endlich wieder zu Gast in der Aula des Johanneums. Für die 5. und 6. Klassen wurde das Stück „BDS and the faceless ghost“ gespielt, für die Klassen 7 bis 9 das Stück „Missing Maths“. Karline und Noah schildern ihre Eindrücke:
So früh bin ich schon lange nicht mehr aufgestanden. Und das nur, damit ich um 7 Uhr vor der Schule sein kann, um dem White Horse Theatre beim Aufbau zu helfen.
Das White Horse Theatre ist ein englisches Theater, das aktuell durch Deutschland fährt und mit lustigen Vorführungen den Kindern dabei hilft Englisch zu lernen.
Da kommt auch schon ein weißes Auto angefahren und vier Leute springen heraus. Kurz darauf ist das Bühnenbild aufgebaut und die vier Schauspieler sitzen im Studio beim Frühstück.
Langsam beginnt sich die Aula zu füllen. Schüler:innen aus den 5. und 6. Klassen sitzen gespannt auf ihren Stühlen und warten, dass es los geht.
Um 8:00 Uhr fängt das Stück „BDS and the faceless ghost“ dann auch endlich an. Es geht um eine Detektivbande, zwei Kinder und einen cleveren Hund namens Snuffels, die einen spannenden Fall, der mit Atommüll zu tun hat, aufklären muss.
Natürlich gibt es auch viele lustige Personen, wie zum Beispiel die alte Dame Miss Blackwell oder den Polizisten, welcher auch einen witzigen Rap aufführt.
Zum Schluss durfte das Publikum den Darstellern dann noch ein paar interessante Fragen stellen, zum Beispiel woher der Name „White Horse“ überhaupt kommt oder wie lange sie schon zusammen unterwegs sind.
Es war eine tolle Erfahrung und hat bestimmt viele in ihren Englischkenntnissen weitergebracht.

A group of actors who are part of the the White Horse Theatre played “Missing Maths” in the assembly hall of the Johanneum on July 6. The play is about four teenagers who are trying to save the world by fighting the climate change, but they also have to deal with their personal problems.
The four teenagers Lee, Sandra, Penny and Dave think about how they could do more for the environment than only demonstrating. They have different ideas, but after some time they decide that they want to put solar panels on the school roof to produce green electricity and Penny wants to talk about climate protection with the owner of a clothing store. The audience also find out that Sandra secretly has a crush on Lee. Because of that she goes together with him to the school director and then to the city administration, but no one there seems to be able to help them. Meanwhile Penny gets the clothing shop owner to make more clothes out of environment-friendly fabric. When they meet the next day at Lees’ house, Lee and Penny confess their feelings to each other, but when Sandra shows up and sees them kissing, she breaks out in tears. Lee decides to walk Penny home and leaves Dave and Sandra alone. Dave tries to calm her down and in the end they get together too. At last, the four get the school director to organize a school event, so they can hold a speech to their school to help them raise money for the solar panels. At the end of the play, they have good chances to realize their plans.
The White Horse Theatre used a very simple set and also simple costumes to present different characters. They used only their voice and some playback music to give the play its sound. Even though they didn’t use a lot of effects and props the play worked very well.
After the play the audience had time to ask questions and everyone got to know more about the group, from their favourite colour to their plans for the future.
I think everyone found the act enjoyable and entertaining and in my opinion it is a good thing to bring people closer to important topics like that.
